History

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL OF SPECIAL SMILES #6811 IN PARAGUAY, SOUTH AMERICA.
2004
The first classroom was built and the school was officially recognized by the Paraguayan government as a learning institution for pre-school to 9th grade. The school is private. The Paraguayan government does not provide financial support to the school. The school's parent/teacher association and the members of the non-profit decide upon the curriculum.
2005
The second classroom was built. Special needs children and adults were enrolled in the school. Special education does not exist in Paraguay. Special needs children and adults simply cannot go to school due to their handicapping condition. For the first time in their lives, children and adults with special needs are educated in a school side by side with their non-disabled peers.
The School of Special Smiles #6811 became a non-profit charity. The name of the non-profit is Students with Special Smiles 501 (c) (3). The non-profit also donates to an inner city elementary school in Cincinnati, Ohio.
2006
The third classroom was built.
2007
A house was purchased on the adjacent property to be utIlIzed as a sheltered workshop for the special needs students.
2008
The Ladies and Gentleman bathrooms were built.
2009
Three computers were donated. The Paraguayan government donated $3000 to build a computer resource room. As of February 2010, the room has been completed and is currently being used.
2010
We had our first graduating class!! 11 Children graduated from sixth grade. Currently, 9 of our graduates are enrolled in the Colegio Nacional Carlos Antonio Lopez, thanks to the help of Students With Special Smiles, and the Castellini family. According to statistics from their new school, all of our graduates hold A and B grades. Natalia Leon, class of 2010, is currently the top student in her class!! - Evidence that Escuela de Sonrisas Especiales no.6811 is a school that provides top quality education to all our children. Thank You!!
2011
We have added a new classroom! Thanks to all the hard work provided by the parents and teachers of our students. You made this possible! And of course, thanks to contributions provided by our donors. Our School continues to grow every day.
2012
Three new laptops were donated. There were repairs and upkeep to the school with five bookcases purchased for each classroom. The rooms were also repainted. In August, the students also participated in the national Special Olympics.
2013-2015
We have done more updates to the school! Fixed bathroom sinks, fixed broken floor tiles, made structural improvements to the school's roof, fixed the gutter system on some of our rooms, added a new hall room, donated a refrigerator and stove to create a kitchen area (which the special needs students use to cook items they sell to the community!), donated new office equipment such as printers, created an arts and crafts expo, and continue events such as the national day of Paraguayan folklore, Special Olympics, and our school parade. All thanks to our volunteer board members, and contributors like you. Thank you!
2016
